WARNING all laser hair removal devices are NOT equal! Its literally a minefield our there!

How surprising that a laser that cost $10,000, $20,000 or even $100,000 would not be equivalent to a laser that cost $150,000!  Massive topic that I won’t go into in total depth right now. I will however convey a conversation I had recently with a new laser client during her initial free consultation (I will add that I hear stories like this on a regular basis!).

The conversation went like this:

I said: “Where did you have your previous laser hair removal treatments?”

She said: “In Melbourne at #($^$@$%^& clinic.”

I said: “What areas did you have treated and how many times each?”

She said: “I had 6 treatments on my underarms & brazilian.”

I said: “How long since you had your last treatment?”

She said: “Its been 6 months since my last one.”

I said: “How much hair do you have left now compared to before you started those treatments?”

She said: “About 50% left.”

I said: “After that many treatments most of your hair should be gone!

She said: “They told me that I would need 8 to 12 treatments.”

I said: “In those areas you should only need 4 to 6 treatments with our laser to get rid of almost all of your hair.”

She said: “They told me that they had the best laser and that they treated me at the top level.”

I said: “What did your treatments cost?”

She said: “$300.”

I said: “Per treatment?”

She said: “No, for the 6.”

I said: “So you mean $50 per treatment for underarms & brazilian?”

She said: “Yes.”

I said: “That is cheaper than a wax for those areas????”

I then went through the rest of our laser hair removal consultation and completed a spot test of the treatment area.

The next day she returned for her 1^st treatment with us.  I commenced the treatment and attempted to work my way up the levels to the level that I needed to treat her on, however she was experiencing far more pain than she should have been after having so many previous treatments.  I performed the treatment at a more conservative level than I had hoped to.  At the end of the treatment she asked me if they had under-treated her?  I said I don’t know, however we need to heat up the hair follicle to get the results, if you weren’t feeling any heat, they were either under treating you or the machine simply wasn’t capable of permanently removing your hair!

She then said: “I wasted my money on those previous treatments didn’t I?”

8 weeks later (a couple of days ago) she returned for her second laser hair removal treatment with us.  I asked her how her results were after just 1 treatment with us compared to the treatments she previously had.  She said there is no comparison! All of her hair was gone for about 6 weeks (note: that is normal with our laser).  Then only in the last 2 weeks she had a minimal amount of hair grow back, however way less than what she had prior to our treatment.
